Ethical Harvest: MEGAFOOD’s RAW MATERIAL POLICY

Categories of Therapeutic Material - Creating the most profound therapeutic response can be challenging. There are many categories of raw materials that can be used in supplements to create therapeutic response:

• Whole Food
  
  The first and foremost choice for Nutritional Therapeutix will always be Food. Food has been proven through historical use and recent science to be our most important source of nutrient support.
• Regular Vitamins
  
  Regular Vitamins isolated fractions, are another form of therapeutic material. Fractionalized vitamins have a viable function when they are supported by the right foods. Nutritional Therapeutix will use regular vitamins when they are supported by Food Factors necessary for Maximum Specific Response.
• Animal Products
  
  The use of animal tissue and by-products from meat, such as Glucosamine Sulfate and Calcium Hydroxyapatite from cows. Collagen from chickens and Gelatin capsules from animal hooves has become very popular. MegaFood will not use materials that cause the destruction or unethical treatment of animals.
• Ethical Harvest
  
  To MegaFood, Ethical Harvest material is renewable, from a sustainable source and ethically harvested. These materials whether plant or animal in origin, are considered gifts to humans. These gifts must be protected from harm at all costs. MegaFood is concerned about the unethical harvest of plants. Unethical harvesting is endangering certain species. There is also unethical harvesting of animal products. The mistreatment of plants or animals should not be tolerated by humans. MegaFood will not use materials that are unethically harvested.

  While creating Nutritional Therapeutix Specific Response Formulas we looked at all available raw materials. That search led to materials that cannot be considered vegetarian. We examined the proven scientific and traditional benefits of some of these raw materials and felt it was important to have the option to include them in our formulas. Some Nutritional Therapeutix formulas may contain ethically harvested, sustainably sourced raw materials. These materials are gathered from unharmed, ethically treated live animals.
• New Zealand Velvet
  New Zealand pioneered sustainable and humane farming practices for harvesting Velvet. Overpopulation was a liability to the Red Deer. Ethical harvesting of Velvet turned the Red Deer population into a valued and protected asset.
• The New Zealand Harvesting Code
  
  The New Zealand Harvesting Code was developed by the Animal Welfare Advisory Board in conjunction with animal welfare organizations. This group included specially trained veterinarians and animal behavior specialists.
• Natural Harvest
  
  In natural circumstances deer antlers are cast off at the end of the winter and regrow during the following year. This cycle repeats itself annually. Antler harvesting takes place while the antlers are in a cartilaginous state, before they harden into bone. The remainder of the natural cycle takes place without interference.
• Like Harvesting Wool
  
  This process can be likened to the sheering of sheep’s wool. It causes no harm or discomfort to the deer. It allows them to live the protected life of a valued species rather than that of a hunted pest. MegaFood is grateful for the offering of such a valuable therapeutic material from New Zealand Red Deer and is happy to play a role in the protection of this majestic breed.
